Booyong Alpacas

Alpaca's, what exactly is an alpaca? Well, if you haven't had the pleasure of viewing one yourself, according to Wikipedia (the source of all knowledge in the universe!) an alpaca is a domesticated species of South American camelid. In laymans terms it's a camelish looking animal that looks similar to that of a small llama.

Your next question, I'm sure, is to ask me why I'm discussing alpaca's with you, a very good question and an easy one. Other than being wonderful creatures, they also provide some of the most amazing material for clothes and amongst their camelid family are highly sort after. Unlike the llama, which is bred to be the muscle for us humans, the alpaca is bred specifically for it's fiber.

In saying all of this, we of course have an absolutely wonderful stall that deals exclusively in alpaca goods, they are Booyong Alpacas! We sincerely love the amazing craftsmanship that they are bringing to Markets Central and it is with pleasure that I write about them right now!

Let me first explain a little bit about alpaca fibre (to the best of my ability!). The texture of their fibre is quite naturally silky and is one of the best replacements, and somewhat better, than sheeps wool as it does not contain any lanolin, which makes it less likely to effect your allergies. The alpaca fibre is also flame resistant, awesome! 

Booyong Alpaca's have been in the alpaca business for about 15 years now and definitely know their stuff. I think one of the unique things with alpacas is that each alpaca has a unique coat with different colours, therefore meaning that there are no dye's used to colour the fibre and it is all natural.
