Dragonfly Foods - The Taste Test!
Stall-Buzz

Markets Central stall holder and purveyor of fine gingerbread men, Dragonfly Foods, were delightful enough to send us some of their tasty treats to try! We thought it would be appropriate to let you know how it went!
One of our wonderful stalls and finest friends, Dragonfly Foods, sent us a little goodies pack last week and we must say, it was DEFINITELY scrumptious. Before launching into a tirade of metaphorical deliciousness (because, let's face it, those words will be needed) let me first delight you with a little information on the brand itself.
Dragonfly Foods is based in Dural, Sydney, and is run by wonderful Helen and her daughter Jess. They make the finest Gingerbread Men by using 'Grandma's' recipe, (which truth be told, will make all the other Grandmothers jealous) and use only the finest of natural products in their delectable creations.
So, us lucky folks at the Markets Central Head Quarters were lucky enough to be treated to a few samples to test including their brand new GLUTEN FREE range. Yes you heard me! For the celiacs out there, never fear! You too can take part in wonderful ginger goodness!

Now, before I get started, let me warn you. I am an avid gingerbread lover, it was my 'thing' when I was a child (as well as countless other sweet vices, jam doughnuts and custard tarts very much included), and rate myself as a little bit of a connoisseur, so you're going to have to forgive me if I seem to be a little bit in love with gingerbread.
The first thing that needs to be talked about with Dragonfly Foods is their presentation. This is a bit of a talking point at Markets Central and something that we like to harp on about regularly - It is SO important for all products great or small to be presented properly, as the way a product looks is a winning introduction to initiate peoples interest in the things you're trying to sell. In saying all this, Dragonfly Foods have their visuals down to a tee, with their gingerbread coming in the cutest portable boxes with a different colour denoting a different flavor and each box housing six gingerbread men inside.
Unwrapping my first lil' man, I couldn't help but notice how unbelievably light and well made they were. They're not enormous in size so I was pleasantly surprised that they didn't crumble at first touch! Everything was held together nicely.
Now it was time to get to the good stuff.
The first thing that springs to mind when biting in (after 'YUM!') is 'ginger'. I know a few of you may be rolling your eyes at me for making such an obvious statement, but in all seriousness, it is SO rare to find gingerbread where you can actually taste the ginger. I don't mean the sweetened refined ginger manufactured by sugar companies, I mean ACTUAL fair dinkum grew from the ground, ginger.

As I said above, the gingerbread is so soft and light but is made so perfectly well that it doesn't crumble after that crucial first bite, so no need to worry about a trail of crumbs mum! The icing isn't caked on either, which is also important, and isn't going to break your teeth (also doubly important!).
Moving on to the GLUTEN FREE range I can honestly say that they've got the balance perfectly. Usually it's so hard to be able to compensate and still maintain the same flavor without the gluten but they've managed to do it and our resident celiac gave it the double thumbs up. What more could you need!
Licking your fingers after the first one, there's no doubt that you'll be heading back to finish the rest and at only $6.50 for each box you most definitely should be getting yourself a few, because lets face facts, they're going to be disappearing quick.
Needless to say we're absolutely loving Dragonfly Foods and cannot wait till we can get our hands on some more of their ginger greatness. You can find them yourself and get your itchy fingers on their great product by visiting their stall on Markets Central or by visiting them at The Rocks Markets on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays!
