The Queen Victoria Market is more than just Melbourne’s shopping mecca – it is a historic landmark, a tourist attraction and an institution for Melburnians. For more than a century, this vast and vibrant centre of trade and commerce has served the consumer needs of more than 200,000 shoppers a week. Spreading over two city blocks, it is a true reflection of Melbourne’s cosmopolitan make-up, Selling everything from exotic Australian fruit and vegetables and local imported gourmet foods to cosmetics, clothing and souvenirs. Almost 1,000 traders sell their goods in vast open-sided sheds and lofty-roofed halls, five days a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays - Sundays). On Sundays, the whole area takes on a carnival atmosphere. During Summer the Queen Victoria Market also plays host to the award winning Suzuki Night Market.
